MACKINAC ISLAND (WKZO) -- Governor Rick Snyder is joining the drive by major businesses to promote equal rights for gays, urging the state legislature to consider updating Michigan’s civil rights law to include the LGBT community.
He didn’t actually come out and say that they should amend the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act, but his suggestion that they at least debate the issue was his strongest statement yet on gay rights.
A coalition of major corporations has been urging the legislature to act for the last month to move on the issue.
Yesterday, Chrysler and the Chambers of Commerce for Detroit and Grand Rapids signed on to the drive.
Democrats are calling it another flip-flop on the part of the Governor who they say is moving to the middle just to curry votes.
