LUDINGTON, MI (WTVB) - A Coldwater man is facing a pair of criminal sexual conduct charges after being accused over the weekend in Mason County of sexually touching two young girls at a campsite. A news release from the Sheriff’s Department in Ludington said 43-year old William Joseph Stempien was arrested Saturday. That’s when the incident was reported after the alleged victims, a 12-year old and a 13-year old girl, notified a DNR conservation officer that they had been sexually assaulted at a site along the Pere Marquette River in Custer Township where they all had been camping.
Authorities said the girls, both from Southern Michigan, are not related to Stempien. He was taken into custody on one count of second degree criminal sexual conduct, one count of fourth degree csc, and possession of analogues. Stempien has been arraigned on those charges and released after posting a $50,000 bond.
A deputy located Stempien at a nearby boat launch and said he was found to be in possession of hydrocodone pills.
