KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- A Kalamazoo man convicted of gunning down Leonel Lopez at an Edison Neighborhood street corner because of a long running feud has been sentenced to life with no chance of parole.
Prosecutors argued that what Demarcus Finley did a year ago in August was cold-blooded, premeditated first degree murder, and the jury agreed.
He was also found guilty on three gun felonies and a drug charge.
The 22-year-old Finley claimed he was innocent during sentencing and says he will appeal.
Several eye-witnesses singled him out as the shooter during the trial.
The gun used in the killing was found in Finley’s home and his DNA was on the .38-caliber revolver.
The prosecutor says he had already committed a crime before he ever pulled the trigger, because he was a felon in possession of both a gun and marijuana.
