OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP (WKZO) — You may have seen the plume of brown smoke rising from Oshtemo in the afternoon, that was just one of many grass fires springing up in the area.
It began as a permitted burn Near KL and 8th ave. but the wind caught it and it got out of hand. Firefighters from several departments responded but 20 to 25 acres were scorched before it was doused.
Oshtemo Fire Chief Fred Barnes says conditions are bad and they will get worse before they get better so be careful if you plan to burn anything.
He says soon it will be bad enough that fire agencies will just stop issuing permits.
Overnight rains helped dampen the danger for now.
