LANSING, MI (WTVB) – The conduct of two members of the Michigan House of Representatives may come under scrutiny. Audio recordings obtained by “The Detroit News” show state Representative Todd Courser of Lapeer asking an aide to cover up an affair with fellow freshman Representative Cindy Gamrat of Plainwell. Former aide Ben Graham was instructed by Courser to send out an email to Republicans claiming the representative from Lapeer was caught having sex with a male prostitute in order to “inoculate the herd” and make the affair seem tame. House Speaker Kevin Cotter issued a statement saying he wants “the non-partisan House Business Office to perform a thorough investigation into the matter”.
Courser is being asked to resign from office by U.S. Representative Candice Miller, who says that Courser was “a man who never passes an opportunity to preach about his supposed morals” and he is “completely unfit to represent” Lapeer County. Allegan County Republican Party Chair Steve McNeal is calling for Gamrat to step down.
