KEELER TOWNSHIP (WKZO) — The quiet and placid surface of Keeler Lake became an accident scene when a man in a speed boat collided with a row boat that contained a couple of anglers who were waiting for the fish to bite.
It happened just before 1 p.m. Saturday in Keeler Township in Van Buren County.
Both of the occupants of the rowboat, a 67-year-old woman and a 51-year old man from Dowagiac were thrown into the water and suffered minor injuries.
Van Buren County Marine deputies, say the 37-year-old operator of the speed boat, an 18-foot Ski Nautique was traveling at a high speed and claimed he was unable to prevent a collision with the rowboat.
He is from Crest Hill, Illinois. He was charged with the reckless operation of a motorboat.
The two anglers were treated for minor injuries at Lakeland Hospital and sent home to recover.
