ALBION (WKZO-AM) — School officials in Albion have voted to begin the process to consolidate with Marshall Schools, but the Albion City Council is objecting to the annexation.
They voted 4-3 against the move until they have specific guarantees, assurances and answers.
City leaders are concerned losing their schools could have a negative economic and social effect on the community. The resolution includes five specific demands that the city and its citizens receive specific reports and plans on how the process will shake out and who will be left to pay the district’s existing debt.
Marshall has already taken on Albion’s high school students. The current plan is to also hand over elementary and middle school operations and students.
