COOPER TOWNSHIP (WKZO-AM) — Allegan County Sheriff’s deputies say a serial burglar who terrorized Otsego and Plainwell is in custody and could be arraigned Wednesday.
Troopers spent much of Tuesday at a rented home on D Avenue in Kalamazoo County, cataloging and hauling stolen items away from the scene. It took multiple truck loads to take it all to police storage.
Detectives will try to match the items with lists of goods taken over the past few months. In addition to getting the items back to their rightful owners, the process will help prosecutors build their case against the suspect.
Officers were waiting for the suspect at his home in Cooper Township after he was confronted by the homeowner at the scene of his latest burglary Monday. The victim got the man’s license plate number.
The suspect tried to make a run for it on foot after spotting police, but a K9 quickly chased him to the ground.
Investigators think the suspect was using proceeds from the robberies to feed a drug habit.
