COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A motel on Coldwater’s west side has gone up in flames this morning, sending about 60 people out into the sub-zero weather conditions. The blaze broke out around 4 a.m. at the Coldwater Inn on U.S. 12 with flames and smoke showing in the office area on the west end of the motel when a Michigan State Police trooper was first to arrive on scene. The fire spread through much of the rest of the structure and it’s expected to be a total loss.
Coldwater, Bronson, Quincy, Union City, Colon, and the Lakeland Fire Departments are all working to control the blaze. The displaced occupants have been taken to the Coldwater Church of the Nazarene for shelter.
A section of U-S 12 is closed where the motel is located, with the shutdown on the west side at Behnke Road and on the East at Western Avenue with traffic being detoured around the fire at the Coldwater Inn.
