BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Sheriff’s Department says six people were injured in a 3 car crash yesterday afternoon at M-86 and Wheeler Road in Batavia Township. Two of the passengers were trapped in the wreckage before being freed by Bronson firemen. All six were taken to the Community Health Center of Branch County for treatment and while there’s no word on their conditions, none of the injuries were believed to be life threatening.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a Chevy Blazer driven by 17-year old Brett Ake of Coldwater with a 16-year old passenger from Union City failed to stop at the stop sign northbound on Wheeler Road and entered the intersection, colliding with an eastbound GMC Yukon driven by 34-year old Andrea Marie Irwin of Hillsdale with a 16-year old passenger from Hamilton, Indiana. The impact pushed the Yukon into the westbound lane of M-86 and it collided head on with a Chevrolet Aveo driven by 48-year old Raymond Kulpinski, Jr. of Coldwater with a 5-year old passenger from Quincy. Deputies said alcohol was not a factor and that all subjects were wearing seatbelts or child restraints.
The accident that was reported at around 3:30 pm Thursday remains under investigation.
