COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater based Southern Michigan Bank & Trust has announced plans to expand its operations in the area from the current four counties to five counties by the end of the year. SMB&T will be opening a new full-service bank branch in Portage in Kalamazoo County. Right now, they have branch banks in Branch, Hillsdale, St. Joseph and Calhoun counties.
The new branch office will be part of a development project designed and constructed to meet LEED certification requirements or green building standards and will become the first newly constructed LEED certified bank branch in southwestern Michigan. The facility is expected to open in late 2015.
John Castle, CEO and Chairman of the bank said they are eager to bring Southern Michigan Bank and Trust’s unique services to the Portage and Kalamazoo area. Southern Michigan Bank and Trust was founded in Coldwater, Michigan in 1872.
