BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – A timely return home yesterday afternoon and quick work by Bronson firemen saved a residence in Branch County’s Bethel Township from heavy damage in a blaze sparked by a dehumidifier. Bronson Fire Chief Brent Wilber said a family member pulled into the driveway at the home of Charlotte Dunking at 552 East Central Road and saw smoke and called 9-1-1. There was heavy black smoke that filled a large enclosed breezeway where the dehumidifier was located.
The alarm came in at around 4:15 p.m. and ten minutes later, the blaze was under control. No one was home at the time. The loss to the structure from smoke and heat was estimated at $12,000 with the contents’ loss put at $1,000. Firemen were on the job for an hour.
