WASHINGTON D.C. (WTVB) – President Obama is praising today’s Supreme Court ruling in favor of the healthcare reform law. Justices voted 6-3 to uphold the legality of taxpayer subsidies in the Affordable Care Act. Speaking from the White House, the President said there is no doubt that the law is working. Obama argued that affordable, quality healthcare is a right for all Americans.
Nearly 300,000 Michiganders are enrolled in health coverage through the federal exchange. Additionally, nearly 80 percent of them count on the federal subsidies guaranteeing affordable coverage that the Supreme Court protected in today’s ruling.
Michigan U.S. Democratic Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters both applauded the ruling with Stabenow urging Republicans, in her words, “to stop playing games and get to work making sure the law works for every American family.”
Michigan GOP Seventh District Congressman Tim Walberg said the President’s health care law is inherently flawed and the Court’s decision doesn’t change that fact. According to Walberg, instead of a top-down bureaucratic system, we need to continue to work on positive solutions that put individual patients in charge and offer more choices for high quality affordable care.
