LANSING (WKZO) — He’s been a shark. He’s been a penguin. This year, Appropriations Chair Al Pscholka appropriately dressed up as the Grinch to raise money for Special Olympics in Michigan in the fourth annual Legislative Polar Plunge.
Brandt Iden was decked out in a bright orange Kalamazoo College running outfit and Rick Jones was wearing a regular business suit with a republican red tie when he leapt in feet first.
Pscholka chose a cannonball entry. Iden gave off a yelp as he jumped from the diving platform.
In all, about 50 lawmakers and staffers jumped into the icy cold pool on the lawn of the state Capitol and raised over $40,000.
Pscholka raised $2,000 for the cause. The event was launched by House Speaker Kevin Cotter, as Michigan Special Olympics are headquartered in his district in Mount Pleasant.
Others may be doing the dive this weekend.
Kalamazoo will hold its local version of the Polar Plunge Saturday at Wings Stadium at 3 p.m.
29-communities in Michigan will be holding the chilly fundraisers for the Special Olympics this year.
