COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Authorities say a Coldwater woman who wasn’t supposed to be driving because her license was suspended faces more serious charges after she crashed her car over the weekend in Branch County, injuring two children in the vehicle which didn’t have a child restraint seat or working safety belts. 36-year old Rebecca Kistler was arrested following the accident for violating probation connected to an assault and battery crime committed last September.
Sheriff’s Deputies said Kistler was travelling on North Fiske Road south of State Road in Coldwater Township when she lost control, passed over a deep ditch, striking a culvert and skidded across a driveway coming to stop in a residential yard. The injured boys, ages 6 and 16, were taken to the Community Health Center of Branch County for treatment. Kistler said she was reaching for her cell phone when she swerved and drove off the roadway.
Deputies will be seeking charges including suspended license, no insurance on the vehicle, reckless driving and child endangerment. The crash happened shortly after 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
