COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Question marks are the common thread for two meetings tonight concerning Coldwater Community Schools. How many teacher layoffs will be announced at a special 5 pm session of the Coldwater Board of Education? And will it be pass or fail five weeks from tomorrow for two school bond issues on the ballot in Coldwater? A citizens group backing a Yes vote is holding an informational meeting at 6:30 at the Jefferson Elementary school.
The number of pink slips needed to deal with a declining enrollment and an estimated $1.6 million budget deficit the Coldwater School District hasn’t been revealed. However, at their regular meeting a week ago tonight, the School Board started the trimming by approving several administration position cutbacks including the elimination of the job of assistant superintendent of schools.
Tonight’s gathering at Jefferson Elementary will be the first of two Town Hall meetings sponsored by the Citizens for Coldwater Community Schools. The group is working to inform the public and answer questions about the school bond issues that will be up for a vote on May 5th. The second Town Hall meeting is scheduled for April 22nd, also at 6:30 p.m. at Max Larsen Elementary.
