BLOOMINGDALE (WKZO) — State Troopers have released the names of the victims involved in a crash between a Van Buren County Squad Car and a Honda on Saturday.
Deputy Todd Oliver and his 17-year old student intern, who was on a ride-along have both been treated for minor injuries and released.
The driver of the Honda, 37-year-old Sara Jelsomeno and her 16-year-old son Ethan, are both listed in stable condition at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo.
17-year-old Nicholas Jelsomeno, who was riding shotgun, was treated at the scene and released. The injuries occurred when Deputy Oliver was rushing to back-up another deputy with his lights and sirens on, traveling behind the Honda on W. Kalamazoo St. in Bloomingdale.
Troopers say he tried to pass the Honda on the left just as Jelsomeno was turning left into her driveway and the two collided.
It remains under investigation. Troopers have dash-cam video of the event, which may help determine which driver, if either should be cited.
