FORT HOOD, TEXAS (WKZO)– Officials at Fort Hood in Texas say a Michigan soldier has died from a gunshot wound at his on-post residence.
Its just been revealed that his body was found on Memorial Day.
He has been identified as 1st Lieutenant Dillon Lee Mitchell of Berrien Springs, a community near the Indiana line in Berrien County.
Mitchell was assigned to the Brigade Engineer Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division. He had served in that unit since October 2013, according to a news release.
Very little about the investigation is being released. They aren’t saying whether they beleive it was intentional, accidental or foul play.
Mitchell entered active duty service in August 2008 and served in Iraq from October 2009 to September 2010. His death is still under investigation.
Mitchell was 30. Funeral arrangements are pending.
