BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — A fire has left a Battle Creek church in ruins.
The congregation at the Community Missionary Baptist Church will have to find a new venue after their church building caught fire Monday night and was heavily damaged.
The structure on Woodlawn Avenue was unoccupied at the time. Someone traveling nearby spotted the flames and reported the fire sometime after 7:30 p.m.
Flames had spread from the back of the building to the sanctuary by the time firefighters arrived.
Preliminary reports say it began in a room used as a nursery, which suffered the heaviest damage. An investigation is planned.
