BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – A three vehicle weekend accident in Bronson Township left three people injured, including one of the drivers who was flown from the scene by Life Flite helicopter to Kalamazoo for treatment. The Branch County Sheriff’s Department says the crash happened around 1:20 p.m. Saturday on US 12.
According to deputies, a jeep driven by 52-year old Charles Birch of Bronson pulled onto US 12 from Weaver Road into the path of an eastbound car driven by 23-year old Benito Luna-Ramirez of Bronson. Luna-Ramirez swerved to go around the Jeep and lost control, sliding into the path of a westbound SUV and was hit broadside by the vehicle driven by 37-year old Jesus Alejandro-Montoya from Sturgis. The jeep wasn’t damaged.
Luna Ramirez went to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo with serious injuries. Two teenage girls from Sturgis in the SUV were taken to the Community Health Center of Branch County with minor injuries. The accident, which shut down US 12 for more than four hours, remains under investigation.
Deputies were assisted by the Bronson Police and Fire departments, Lifecare ambulance, Branch County Road Commission, Michigan State Police and the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department.
