PORTAGE (WKZO-AM) — The new Portage City Council has been sworn into office.
But because only incumbents won reelection, the only real change is that Nasim Ansari was elected to fill the largely honorary post of Mayor Pro Tempore.
Richard Ford, Jim Pearson and Patricia Randall were all reelected to new four-year terms. Mayor Peter Strazdas will remain in his post for another two years.
But deep philosophical differences remain on the panel and will likely persist over the next two years. It was exhibited Tuesday in the debate over whether to take some of the city’s surplus revenue and create a strategic reserve fund that would have restricted access.
