LANSING (WKZO-AM) — The Michigan Public Service Commission has authorized Consumers Energy to increase its electric rates by $130 million annually.
Effective next month, residential customers using 500 kilowatt hours monthly will see an increase of $1.28 on their bill.
Once the utility purchases a new natural gas-fueled plant near its Jackson headquarters, residential customers will see a $1.88 hike in their monthly bills. That figure will go down to $1.25 when seven coal-fired plants are retired next April.
Consumers had asked the PSC for a $199 million increase.
