KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Local schools are beginning to crunch the numbers after Wednesday’s count day.
Changes among the public school districts weren’t all that noticeable. According to preliminary numbers, enrollment is up 82 students at Kalamazoo Public Schools. It’s down six in Portage.
Charter school enrollment, however, is down 14 percent in the metropolitan area. That bucks a statewide trend, where a progressively higher numbers of children are attending schools outside established public school systems.
There are still months worth of audit checks before numbers are finalized.
Attendance counts 90 percent toward how much money the state sends each district each year operations.
