PORTAGE (WKZO-AM) — A 44-year-old man who was running down South Westnedge Avenue is hospitalized after getting struck by a car at Shaver Road, mere feet from Portage Public Safety headquarters.
It happened at 8:40 p.m. as a 59-year-old woman from Schoolcraft was driving southbound on Shaver.
The runner went up onto the hood of her vehicle and into the windshield. His condition has not been released.
The driver escaped injury.
The wreck forced a closure near the intersection until just before 1 a.m. Wednesday.
UPDATE: 10/14 at 11:34 a.m. — The 44-year-old runner struck by the vehicle has been identified as Bradley Westfall of Portage.
He remains hospitalized. His condition is still not known.
