COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater is getting closer to possibly being chosen as the location for a cheese factory and 140 new jobs and the City Council last night took a step to move along the process. The council, following a public hearing, approved applying for $1 million State Community Development Block incentive grant to assist the company in acquiring the land at Jonesville Road and I-69 for the factory.
City Planning Director Keith Baker told the Council the big disclaimer is that it’s not been approved at the state level and as much as the city is working toward that, it’s not a done deal yet. According to Baker, the city would be the grantee and then the funds would be transferred to the company, if they are approved.
City Manager Jeff Budd said it’s all looking very promising, but in his words, there are number of obstacles to cross and if this was a ten hurdle race, there are still 3 or 4 issues to be resolved. The name of the company hasn’t been revealed. It would be located in the same general area where the Clemens pork production facility is now under construction.
