COVERT (WKZO-AM) — The Palisades Nuclear Power Plant near Covert had to be shut down on Wednesday after turbine generator system equipment failed.
The failure was in a non-nuclear part of the plant, Entergy officials said.
The reactor shutdown comes four days before the company planned to take the plant offline for planned refueling and maintenance.
Entergy officials say that the automatic action occurred after Palisades had been operating continuously for 447 days since its last refueling outage 18 months ago.
There’s no word on when the facility will return to full operation.
