LANSING (WKZO-AM) — Former state House representative Cindy Gamrat will be allowed to run for her old seat during an upcoming special election in the 80th district, despite getting thrown out of office earlier this month.
The Secretary of State’s Office on Monday said it couldn’t find any law preventing Gamrat from running after she applied Thursday to be put on the ballot for the November primary.
The Republican from Plainwell is accused of using taxpayer resources in a failed scheme to cover up her sexual relationship with another socially conservative Tea Party member, Todd Courser of Lapeer.
Courser, who resigned just one hour before Gamrat was expelled, announced his candidacy for his old seat Friday.
