ANN ARBOR (WKZO-AM) — A new study released by the University of Michigan shows that the public is skeptical about the safety of hydraulic fracturing, and that the practice is environmentally sound.
After three years of study, they have 200 pages of recommendations that they say would improve fracking in Michigan.
The study is crafted specifically to match the state’s geology and politics, and, while it makes no recommendations, it does provide a list of options.
Among them: Including local residents in the decision making and encouraging the recycling of wastewater.
It would also recommend that oil companies publish the chemicals they use in the fracking process, so that, if any contaminates local wells or aquifers, it can be traced back to the source.
