KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Wages in Kalamazoo and Battle Creek are staying flat, despite moderate post-recession job growth.
Brian Pittelko is an analyst with the Upjohn Institute and says businesses want to hire, but don’t want to fork over the big bucks.
“Ususally a sign of a labor shortage is wages going up, but, on average, things are still very, very flat,” Pittelco said
Non-farm wages are holding near $900 a week. Weekly manufacturing wages are between $200 to $300 higher.
Both of those values are essentially unchanged since 2005, Pittelko said.
