OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP (WKZO-AM) — Kalamazoo County Deputies and police officers from the City, Township, Portage, WMU, Richland, Vicksburg and Schoolcraft teamed up along West Main in Oshtemo Township to do a focused patrol Thursday afternoon, concentrating on distracted drivers.
It came just a few days after a distracted driver was cited for striking and injuring a boy on a bike in Comstock Township,
During a 5-1/2 hour period, they managed to stop 108 cars and cite 28 drivers for texting behind the wheel.
They also found four wanted on outstanding warrants.
They also handed out tickets for driving while license suspended, failure to wear a seat belt, following too closely, speeding and improper plates.
The overtime was funded by the Office of Highway Safety Planning.
