KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Construction work on some major road projects will begin in the area this week.
MDOT Spokesman Nick Schrippa says the biggest project will be the redesign and reconstruction of Exit 88 along I-94 in Charleston Township which will cost $12-million.
They plan to replace the bridge and extend the ramps.
The second largest project is a $10.3-million contract to repave both lanes of U.S. 131 from I-94 to U Avenue. That’s where the divided highway ends just north of Schoolcraft.
Both those projects will take until the end of September to complete.
Also beginning Monday, crews will begin grinding off and replacing the surface of three miles of I-94 near Paw Paw. That project should be done in late May.
Construction is also planned this summer on local streets in Kalamazoo, Portage and Kalamazoo Township.
Martin Luther King Drive near the Crossroads is also scheduled for a face lift this construction season.
MDOT is lifting weight limits on Michigan roads this week, now that the fear of frost has passed.
