CALHOUN COUNTY (WKZO-AM) — A concerted effort by health officials to reduce the infant mortality rate in Calhoun County has apparently paid off.
For the first time in a decade, the number of babies in the county who died in their first year was lower than the previous recording period, dropping from 11.2-per-thousand at its peak to just six-per-thousand in new statistics.
They say it’s due to a number of programs that promote the education and health of young women and their newborns.
