KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The 8th District Court in Kalamazoo has offered to cancel bench warrants once before as an incentive to get violators to pay their fines and court fees and it was such a hit, they are trying it again.
It’s not exactly a “get out of jail free card” or “amnesty,” but they are willing to cancel the arrest warrants that have been issued because people are in arrears. They will still have to pay what they owe, but there won’t be a bench warrant hanging over their heads.
The court has posted a list of all the people who qualify for the special opportunity on their Facebook page. Those violators on the list can report to the court on Michigan Avenue on Thursday at 9 a.m.
Offenders can either pay up then, or work with court staff to make arrangements to pay.
It does not apply to felony and non-support warrants.
