UNDATED (WKZO-AM) — Macy’s has announced its closing 100 of its 675 stores as they cope with the changing retail landscape.
There are 19 Macy’s department stores in Michigan, most of them at malls, including at the Crossroads Mall in Portage, and Lakeview Square Mall in Battle Creek.
The firm has not said which outlets they will be closing, but they say they will remain in 49 of the 50 top markets when they are through.
Macy’s closed 39 stores last year. The stores probably won’t close until after the Christmas shopping season.
The company said it’s just reacting to the changing marketplace, as online sales continue to grow.
