EMMETT TOWNSHIP (WKZO-AM) — A house fire in Emmett Township near Battle Creek has left a woman in her 60s in critical condition in the Bronson Methodist Hospital Burn Unit in Kalamazoo.
She managed to escape the burning house on her own, but not before suffering burns and smoke inhalation.
The blaze broke Sunday morning at about 1 a.m. in the 200 block of Cherokee Street.
Investigators say it appears to have started in the garage and spread to the home. They think it may have been triggered by an electrical problem.
The victim has been indentified as 61-year-old Sheila McIntyre.
