BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — The rare poisoning of a Battle Creek man is both a criminal investigation and a medical mystery because no one has been able to find the source of the thallium that has made Steven Anderson critically ill.
Also hampering the investigation is the fact that no one has been able to talk with Anderson because of his condition.
His mother, Delores Whitfield, said that’s been hard on the family. The hospital is no longer permitting visitors in his room.
The Major Crimes Task Force has been activated to determine if the 41-year-old father of two was intentionally poisoned, but his mother can’t think of anyone who want him dead. His girlfriend and children have been tested and are asymptomatic.
Experts from state and federal agencies have searched his home and his place of work and found nothing.
Reports are that he is responding to treatment but remains in critical but stable condition at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.
