KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Kalamazoo-area street artist Bonus Saves plans to start a massive mural along the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail next week.
Patrick Hershberger, who works under the pseudonym, said the project’s inspiration came while walking the trail.
“Right underneath the Veterans’ Memorial Bridge off Michigan Avenue, there’s kind of a lot of graffiti there,” Hershberger said. “It just was the perfect spot to do a mural.”
It will recount the history of Kalamazoo’s waterways, Hershberger said. He also said the work underneath the bridge will be sprawling and should generate foot traffic.
“The wall it’s going on is 100 feet (long) and eight feet tall, and underneath the bridge you can’t see the whole thing from one vantage point.” Hershberger said. “So, it was the perfect wall to tell a story.”
The mural should be completed by next month.
Hershberger is also asking for help selecting the panels for the mural from 12 concepts.
