WHITE PIGEON (WKZO-AM) — A woman who was struck from behind in White Pigeon earlier this week has now died from her injuries at Bronson Methodist Hospital.
Kaylan Rider, 24, was a single mom who was walking home Monday from her job at McDonald’s along U.S. 131 when Michigan State Police say she was struck by a man from Plainwell driving an SUV.
That close to the Indiana border, U.S. 131 is just a two lane rural roadway — not the divided highway that runs through the rest of west Michigan.
Rider would have been 25 on Monday, but instead of a birthday party, her family is planning a funeral and wake.
Police say they anticipate seeking charges against the driver who apparently was reaching for a drink and was distracted when he struck the woman. They say they don’t believe alcohol was a factor.
A final decision will be up to the St. Joseph County prosecutor.
