KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Nearly $20,000 has been raised for the family of a Western Michigan University student who was shot and killed last Thursday.
A $10,000 GoFundMe has been established for the family of 19-year-old Jake Jones, an exercise science major from Onsted, who was described on the page as a bright student with an infectious smile and a radiant personality. At last check Wednesday afternoon, $19,186 had been raised by 178 donors.
Jones was gunned down at the SoHo Apartments on Howard Street near the school’s Kalamazoo campus.
WMU basketball player Joeviair Kennedy has been jailed for that shooting and faces murder, robbery and gun charges. Detectives claim Kennedy left his phone at the scene. A second suspect remains at large.
The victim was set to turn 20 this month. A ceremony to remember Jones’ life was held Tuesday.
