BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — A 58-year-old Battle Creek man has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly striking his wife in the head with a hammer.
The victim remains in critical condition at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, and prosecutor David Gilbert told the court on Monday that 45-year-old Cassindra Davis might not survive.
The victim and James Arthur Davis Jr. had apparently been arguing because he suspected she was seeing someone just prior to the attack Sunday morning.
He surrendered to police as they arrived at their apartment on North Union Street.
Davis is a convicted killer who served ten years in prison for a second-degree murder in Wayne County in 1974. He was released after doing his time.
Davis also served time for a sex offense.
His bail was set at $400,000.
