KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — More people in Kalamazoo are asking for their tap water to be tested in the wake of the Flint water crisis, officials with the city said.
The free service had always been offered, but Public Services Director Sue Foune said they have received a number of requests since issuing a series of press releases reassuring the public the local system does all the things it’s expected to do to minimize contamination.
“We’re getting several calls from citizens, from schools, Western (Michigan University), (Kalamazoo) College, the hospitals — we’re doing special testing at all of those facilities,” Foune said.
She said a special team is being assembled to go out and do the sampling.
Portage is also offering free testing to reassure its water customers who may have concerns about what’s coming from their taps.
