LANSING (WKZO-AM) — Sen. Margaret O’Brien of Portage expects a bill for no-reason absentee voting in Michigan to be discussed again when the legislature returns from its holiday break next week.
“I’ve talked to the Senate Majority Leader, and he has assured me that we’ll be holding hearings,” O’Brien said. “I think there’s a will, among most of us in the senate, to get this done.”
The Republican says lawmakers generally favor the proposal, but have concerns about election integrity.
“Some of my coleagues in the Senate have reservations, mostly with making sure we keep voting secure and safe, and that we don’t have fraud in our voting system,” O’Briend said.
Following the adoption of legislation prohibiting straight-party voting, Gov. Rick Snyder urged the reforms to shorten wait times at polling places.
