BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — Battle Creek has unveiled its first of 10 special parking spaces reserved for combat-wounded veterans.
“We’re trying to do this for all the right reasons, and that’s to show support for all of our veterans,” Mayor Dave Walters said.
Walters got the idea after visiting a city in California. He’s hoping the signs start a trend.
“We wanted to see, by jump-starting this Battle Creek at the municipal locations, if others locations jump on it a do the same thing,” Walters said.
The first spot with was opened Thursday outside City Hall. Walters says additional installations are planned at other city-owned facilities.
Special white and purple reflective signs over each space feature a Purple Heart.
