PORTAGE (WKZO) — A Kalamazoo teen has been formally charged with two felonies for causing a weekend crash that killed a woman from Paw Paw.
Portage investigators say 33-year old Crystal Norton was pulling on to Oakland Drive as David Mills was closing on her location at about 80-mph, trying to out run officers who were in hot pursuit Saturday night.
The two collided.
Norton’s brother, Charles says he hopes they prosecute Mills to the fullest extent possible.
The victim leaves behind a daughter who celebrated her birthday just last week.
The suspect has a long string of drug violations which prevented him from getting a driver’s license, and may add time to his sentence.
Portage Police say they are doing a routine internal review of the chase to make sure it adheres to Department Policies, and if there is anything they can learn from the experience.
