BRANCH COUNTY (WKZO-AM) — The prison term for a sex offender could be lengthened after federal prosecutors say he managed to commit a sex crime without leaving his cell at the Bellamy Creek Corrections Center in Ionia.
Shane Scott, 41, was coming to the end of his 15-year maximum sentence last February for having sex with a 12-year-old when he was indicted on the new charges. Prosecutors claim, in the months leading up to the end of his sentence, he arranged with a Branch County woman to have sex with her physically and developmentally disabled teenage daughter.
He had been in custody undergoing psychiatric exams and awaiting trial ever since.
He could get up to life in prison when he’s sentenced in May.
The teenager’s mom, Linda Erle, will be sentenced in February for a computer crime.
