BENTON TOWNSHIP (WKZO-AM) — A man from Benton Township faces multiple charges after he allegedly caused a crash that killed a passenger and injured several others.
Berrien County Sheriff Paul Bailey identified the suspect as 22-year-old Ulises Rangel, who is being held for operating a vehicle without a license causing death. Rangel also was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon.
Taylor said it appears Rangel was traveling at a high rate of speed when he slammed into a van on East Empire Avenue, then struck another car.
A backseat passenger, identified as 19-year-old Alphonzo Porter Jr. of Benton Harbor, died from injuries suffered in the collision Tuesday evening. Others involved were injured, including Rangel, but none of them seriously.
