BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — The suspect in the shooting death of a Battle Creek man has been returned to Michigan from Arizona and is expected to be charged with manslaughter and felony gun charges.
The death of 18-year-old Justin Madden was initially ruled to be accidental after his roommate, 20-year-old Jace Vaughn, told police Madden was handling a shotgun when it suddenly discharged, causing a fatal wound.
The shooting happened in the apartment they shared in April 2015.
Sgt. Troy Gilleylen said the physical evidence and the description of what happened given by Vaughn did not add up.
A warrant for Vaughn was issued in December. He was tracked to his mother’s apartment in Bullhead City, Ariz., where he was taken into custody and waived extradition.
Vaughn is expected to be formally charged on Monday.
