VICKSBURG (WKZO-AM) — Health advisories have been extended on Sunset Lake Beach in Vicksburg through the Fourth of July weekend and through most of next week because the surfact water tests at the lake still show bacteria levels are still higher than the state allows.
Officials said the problem isn’t industrial pollution or run-off from lawns, it’s apparently wild geese. Too many of them are using the lake as their personal bathroom.
That, combined with heat, has created a soup of bacteria that health officials in Kalamazoo County say isn’t healthy for humans.
The next test samples will be taken next Wednesday with results available on Thursday.
The lake has been flagged multiple times for higher-than-allowed bacteria levels within the past 30 days.
