PORTAGE (WKZO-AM) — An 86-year-old Portage woman has been cited for causing an accident that left a Van Buren County woman injured.
Portage Public Safety said the elderly woman backed out of a driveway in the 500 block of West Centre Avenue, directly into the path of a 2002 BMW driven by a 56-year-old woman from Paw Paw.
The younger woman attempted to swerve but did not clear the KIA Sportage backing into her path, sending the BWM into a spin that ended when the car hit the curb and flipped onto its roof.
The collision occurred just before 8 p.m. Saturday.
The Paw Paw woman was taken to Borgess Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
Her 54-year-old passenger was not injured, and neither was the elderly driver who caused the crash.
