SHERWOOD TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Sheriff’s Department says they had to deal with an armed 71-year-old man who was having mental issues on Sunday morning on Arney Road in Sherwood Township.
A caregiver and a nephew told the Sheriff’s Department that the man was having several medical issues and hallucinating about threats toward him by neighbors. They were also told the man produced a handgun and pointed at the face of his nephew and ordered him out of the house or be shot.
Several shotguns were also in the home. No one else was in residence.
The Sheriff’s Department says the man inside was in need of immediate medical and mental health care.
With the help of a ballistic shield, the deputies got inside and secured the man as well as the firearms. Life Care ambulance took the man to the Community Health Center of Branch County where deputies petitioned the man for mental health treatment.
